On July 15 at the Ice Palace, sultry, dusky-toned singer Sherry Vine added a new Tuesday-night-at-11 p.m. show to her every-other-Friday-night appearances with Porsche. Tommy Kirby served as DJ.
Sherry opened with a bang by confiding in us a bit of naughtiness in "Don't Tell Mama," from "Cabaret," which she followed with a raucous rap about herself: "Sherrylicious." She sizzled, bilingually-in English and in the language of Cervantes-declaring, "I am I, Don Quixote, the Man of LaMancha."
Our diva probed the 'perils' of being a working girl-"Come on boy, I've been waiting all night for you to drop your load"-and, rocking us, swore her devotion with, "I don't want anybody else." Sherry poured out her heart, yearning, "It must be him"-the cad-in the Vicky Carr song. She concluded her program with an ex-rated number-"deep inside of me"-to recorded backups' refrain of "The girl can't help it."
Sherry's first encore was a driven and earthy, extremely evocative "Port of Amsterdam," by Jacques Brel. She took leave of us with her scatological "(When did I eat) Corn."
