Dan Daly, singer, songwriter, and pianist, made a much-delayed seasonal return to performing in Cherry Grove, at a new venue, outdoors at Cherry Grove Pizza, at the invitation of proprietor Frank Pezzuto, on August 12. We enjoyed three hours of rare live music making—Rodgers and Hart, Irving Berlin, George and Ira Gershwin, Kander and Ebb, Jerry Herman, and original songs by Dan himself.
Singing solos and duets with Dan were regular Mike Schaefer (“Shadow of Your Smile,” “Nearer”), cabaret singer Chris Caswell (“My Funny Valentine”), Covid Destroyer Davida Jones (“Over the Rainbow,” “Miss Otis Regrets”), newcomer Summer (“Dream a Little Dream”), and this writer and baritone (“Summertime” and, duetting with Dan, “I Hear Singing,” “Old Fashioned Wedding” and, from “A Chorus Line,” “One”). Dan lifted our spirits with his song “Shine the Light,” inspired by our struggle with the pandemic.
Look for Dan and his followers, downtown at Cherry Grove Pizza, on Wednesdays, from 7 to 10 p.m., and Fridays, from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.
