Susan Ann Thornton has put out what she calls “my little book” of paintings, “Atmospheres: Fire Island, Cherry Grove,” a selection of her beautifully evocative acrylics and oils of seascapes and landscapes, the dated ones executed in 2017-19.
The dramatic Atlantic ocean, sky, light, and beach, dunes, and houses, at various times of night and day, have particularly inspired her. The collection also includes one of the Great South Bay and one of a deer. If someone asks you what Cherry Grove, at its most contemplative, looks like, hand them Susan Ann’s book.
