On July 17 and 18, a selection of photographer Koitz’s work was on display at the historic Cherry Grove Community House and Theater, in a show, curated by Parker Sargent, under the aegis of the Arts Project of Cherry Grove (APCG), and entitled “Gay Fire Island: Photographs of Queer Community.” “Gay Fire Island” is also the title of the book of Koitz’s photos published last year.
The selection here included queens participating in the annual Independence Day ‘Grove Invasion of the Pines,’ scenes at the beach and in the woods, some tasteful male nudes, and a figure, formally attired, with his hands raised, “Conducting the Waves.”
All proceeds from the sale of prints of the photos at the exhibit benefited APCG.
