Beloved entertainer Hedda Lettuce ended her season at Cherry’s with shows on August 30 and 31 and I attended the former. Brandon “Jizzabella” Ballone was the DJ.
Performing “under the Big Top” here, Hedda kibitzed with the Pines guys down front and compared Grove folks with these guys, going off their diets in the Grove. When an audience member noted that he originally came from Dix Hills, Long Island, Hedda exclaimed, “The holy land to the Jews! It’s a mitzvah to live in Dix Hills.” She retorted to a would-be celebrity, “There’s only one star in the room and it’s me!” When another audience member said that he worked at Goldman Sachs, Hedda noted, “He works at a Jewish bank!” and launched into a little dance to “Hava Nagila.” A graduate of ‘Apex Tech,’ she recommended that “every arts school should have an air conditioner repair course,” just in case.
Hedda sang “Life Is a Cabaret,” “Dancing Queen,” and “Jesus, Take the Wheel (‘cause I’m too drunk to drive),” all as audience sing-alongs; put out a cigarette in a Pines guy’s nachos twice; and concluded with “All that Jizz,” her answer to “All that Jazz,” from “Chicago.”
Can’t wait to have Hedda back here next season!
