Robert “Cobra” Scherffius, who was born on February 28, 1930, passed away on September 4, according to Michael Shanahan. “In recent years,” Michael wrote on Facebook, “Robert’s health was in decline, but he was comfortable and participating in some light rehabilitation when he passed quietly after a nap around 1 p.m.” Arrangements were being made for a funeral at Redden Funeral Home on West 14th Street. Robert was predeceased, on September 3, 2020, by his husband of 67 years, Victor Alfieri.
Cobra and Victor were married on the beach at Cherry Grove, with a reception at the Ice Palace, on September 17, 2011. Escorted by Victor, Cobra was the Grove’s Homecoming Queen in 1997. Cobra was also officially the “card girl” in many Doctor’s Fund benefit shows.
Our dear friend will be sorely missed.
