Jan Felshin, distinguished professor at East Stroudsburg State College, in Pennsylvania, and beloved spouse, friend, and neighbor, in Cherry Grove, Fire Island and Tannersville, PA, “died peacefully at home,” at the age of 89, in the Poconos, according to a September 29 email from the Cherry Grove Community Association, Inc. (CGCAI). Her spouse Edrie Ferdun, professor and dancer, was with her.
Jan and Edrie first met in Berkeley, California 62 years ago. They were wed in California in 2008 when same-sex marriage became legal there. Festive parties took place in Cherry Grove, in 2009, at Cherry’s, and 2019, at Heaven ’n’ Earth, to celebrate the couple’s 50th and 60th anniversaries together and were attended by much of the community.
“They have been pillars of our community for over 50 years,” the CGCAI email continued. “Jan’s presence in Cherry Grove will be missed by so many of us. She was truly a light in our community.”
