On December 13, Cherry Grove Archivist Lee Sharmat notified Fire Island Q News that Grove thespian Anthony “Tony Bondi” Ardilio, born September 12, 1943, passed away that day,.at age 78. His partner Bo (Bob) Perillo predeceased him on January 30, 2008.
Anthony Leone posted the following funeral information for Tony on Facebook: Visitation, Sunday, December 19, from 2 to 7 p.m., at Leone Funeral Home, 696 Fourth Avenue, Brooklyn, and burial at Mount St. Mary Cemetery, 172-00 Booth Memorial Avenue, Flushing, Queens.
Tony was in numerous Arts Project of Cherry Grove theatrical productions and benefits for PAWS (the Pines Animal Welfare Society). In Sal Piro’s 2002 musical “Class/Reunion,” he played a sex education teacher, leading her male students in a song and dance to “The Good Time Girl (VD Polka),” from the Andrews Sisters musical “Over Here!” “Raining in My Heart,” Bernadette Peters’ song from “Dames at Sea,” armed with umbrella and raincoat, was a frequent Tony Bondi number. In one show, he sang “Adelaide’s Lament,” from “Guys and Dolls.” When Mother Flawless Sabrina came to the Tides, in Cherry Grove, to show her 1968 film “The Queen,” Tony was one of the people present who recognized people in the film. On September 17, 2011, Tony was Maid of Honor to Bobbie “Cobra” Scherffius at Cobra’s wedding to Victor Alfieri.
We’ll miss Tony greatly.
