| Arts Project Celebrates Lorraine Michels' Photography |

The Arts Project of Cherry Grove (APCG) celebrated the work of Grove photographer Lorraine Michels with a one-woman show at the Community House on September 7 and 8 and numerous friends and relatives attended the opening reception.
Lorraine displayed photos of Grove drag queens, the Fire Department, APCG shows, and the Invasion of the Pines. Some of the latter showed the Homecoming Queen and her entourage preparing for the event, i.e. the transformation of Edgar to Lola in great detail.

There were photos of the beach and the animals, and amazing aerial views of the community, shot during a birthday plane ride to which her partner, Joan Van Ness, had treated Lorraine. Some photos made use of the giclée technique, in which bursts of painted or ink jet color augment and heighten the images.
We saw photos Lorraine took during trips to Maine, safari in Africa, and voyage to the Galapagos. Greeting cards with Lorraine's work were included, as were photos featured on the cover of Fire Island Tide. Lorraine showed off her mother's camera, many decades old, "where it all began" when her mother encouraged her to take photos.
