The 10th annual Fire Island Black Out (FIBO) weekend, for LGBT people of color and their friends and families, spearheaded by FIBO President and CEO James Wellons, took place on August 10 through 12 and encompassed events at the Hilton Garden Inn in Ronkoma; the beach, Ice Palace, and Island Breeze restaurant in Cherry Grove; and the Fire Island Pines Deck Pool.

On August 11, the beach in the Grove was alive with colorful tents raised by individuals, organizations, and businesses, such as Gilead Pharmaceutical and the Testing Makes Us Stronger Campaign, Barefoot Wine & Bubbly, and Popchips, with prizes awarded for most original, most creative, and most fabulous tent. There were also beach volleyball games. Later in the day, there were Happy Hour parties and a “10-Hour Bump & Dip Dance Party” at the Ice Palace, and a women’s party, billed as “Pleasure Island,” at Island Breeze.
