On April 3, impresario and party-giver Daniel Nardicio announced the full exciting lineup for his second annual Icon Series, for summer 2013 at the Ice Palace, in Cherry Grove, Fire Island, where we can expect the likes of legendary Broadway divas Chita Rivera and Carol Channing!
So for those who wondered how Daniel would top the Icon Series’ 2012 premiere season, here’s the answer. The 2013 series opens on May 25, the Saturday night of Memorial Day Weekend, with an appearance by, according to her web site, “tragic singer, horrible dancer and surreal raconteur, the hysterically funny” drag artiste Dina Martina and continues on June 29, the eve of Pride in New York City, with standup comic Paula Poundstone. A couple of days after the annual Independence Day Grove Invasion of the Pines, expect the riotous Bruce Vilanch, on July 6. Margaret Cho, who dazzled us with her stories and pithy observations on the Icon Series last season, returns for two shows on July 13. Filmmaker John Waters (“Pink Flamingos,” “Female Troubles,” “Polyester,” and the original “Hairspray,” starring Divine) has a few stories of his own to tell and puts in an appearance on July 20, and Ice Palace favorite big brash Bridget Everett rounds out the month on July 27.
Some of the biggest guns come out in August, with Wonder Woman Lynda Carter kicking off the last month of the series on August 3. Superstar Chita Rivera (“West Side Story,” “Chicago,” “Kiss of the Spiderwoman”) arrives for a Fire Island debut on August 17—tickets at $70 plus $3.44 service fee, for general admission, and $85 plus $3.97 are already available on line at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/363908, for her 8 p.m. show.
On August 24, welcome not only Justin Vivian Bond, for a return engagement, but also Carol Channing—well, Hello Dolly! Last year in the Grove, Daniel brought us Liza Minnelli, with Alan Cumming, who gave us something of an encore of their sold out Fire Island shows at Town Hall last month. This year, to close the series on August 31, during Labor Day Weekend, Daniel presents Lorna Luft, Judy Garland’s other singing daughter. Start making your plans now!
