The June 13 season premiere of Ariel Sinclair’s popular Thursday night Kamikaze Kabaret, at the Ice Palace, assisted by DJ Chuck McTague, featured favorite comic Yamaneika Saunders as its headliner. Ariel opened by working the crowd with Bette Midler number “Friends” and, as a cowgirl in pink and black, urged, “Go and fix your makeup, girl,” in her song about her “mama’s broken heart.”
Ariel’s other guests were a punky-looking, limber young man named Jace Monroe, who danced athletically to a couple of numbers for his Ice Palace debut, and Anthony Kapfer, who accompanied his sets by strumming on his guitar. He closed with an alphabet song (“D is for Divorce”), allegedly from his album “Songs for Children to Cry to,” as Mr. Fire Island Leather 2013 Candido Soares collared him.
Ariel and Logan Hardcore hosted a high-fashion modeling contest.
Yamaneika told us about the unlikelihood of her being ravished by a vampire and greater likelihood that, if she ran into a stranger in an alleyway at 4 a.m., she’d be the one doing the ravishing. She shared her woes about Internet dating and informed us about a confrontation she had in church with a woman who challenged her, “I came here to praise His name,” and wondered if she were there for any other reason. Yamaneika closed with her infamous and uproarious bikini waxing story and some comments about Weight Watchers.
