On July 13, the Ice Palace hosted its annual Key West Invasion, bringing Porsche’s Florida friends and colleagues north to entertain us. DJ Chuck McTague assisted.
Deja hosted the show and joined Sassy Black, Gugi Gomez, and Sushi in “Lady Marmalade” as the opening number. Mark Watson, a drag performer who retains his male name, gave us a psychedelic “White Rabbit” and, staying in the ’60s, “Downtown.” Gugi, with her “eye on the target,” taught us what “bang bang” was all about and Deja and Sushi joined her in an earthy “Be Italian,” from “Nine.”
Deja called 911 to complain “My pussy is burning” as a prelude to asking, “Does anyone want to have sex tonight?—pure unadulterated sex tonight?” Flashing a sometimes toothless smile, Sushi channeled Björk for a kooky “It’s oh So Quiet.” Sister Sassy’s tour-de-force consisted of “Heat Wave,” “My Guy”—er “God,” “I Will Follow Him,” “We Are Family,” “Dancing in the Street,” and “I’m Saved.” She returned later for “Disco Inferno.”
Porsche and Sherry Vine added to the merriment by singing “Miss Celie’s Blues” and Porsche and Mark Watson joined voices for “If You Could Read My Mind.”
