The Arts Project of Cherry Grove (APCG) rounded out its Summer 2013 season with a gala Beaux Arts Ball, in black and silver, with more than 160 in attendance, at the Ice Palace on September 28. DJ Chuck McTague was responsible for music, lights, and sound. “This was a fabulous way to end a fabulous season,” said Homecoming Queen Shirley Shapiro, addressing the crowd.
APCG gave community service awards to George McGarvey, to Demi-Tasse in absentia, and to Roland Michely and Joe Anania. New APCG Board member Gusty Winds hosted a short and exuberant show, beginning with her “I Am What I Am,” which she dedicated to the late Teri Warren. Ann Phetamine invited “Raise Your Glass,” while emptying a prescription bottle. Porsche sang Madonna’s “Vogue,” accompanied by Gusty’s interpretive dance.
Gusty and Matt Baney hosted a costume contest, judged by Sue Panzer, Angela Smith, James Hughes, and Laura Ann Giusto. Donna Piranha and Roger Cortez won the prize for Most Elegant Artist. Eva So Saucy and Addictus won for Most Pagan. The Gambling Pirate and the Ice Princess won the What Were You Thinking? prize. The Most Elaborate Architecture prize went to Delta Felta Guy, with James, Jake, Toni, Edgar, Hussein, Jane, Michael, and Richard, in tuxedos, bearing lit-up landmark structures on their top hats. Ken Woodhouse won in the Most Creative Beaux Artist category. Ruth Kosoff merited Honorable Mention as the Judges’ Choice.
Mussels, French onion soup, fruit, cheeses, and salad; tilapia, chicken française, pork, beef, and vegetables; and French pastries were served for dinner.
