Family, friends, and neighbors of Cherry Grove community member David A. Blaustein, who was born on September 8, 1961 and passed away on August 2, 2013, will celebrate his life on October 25 at 7 p.m. at non-profit crisis center Friends In Deed, at 594 Broadway, Suite 706, between Houston and Prince Streets in Manhattan, according to Dennis McConkey, David’s life partner and survivor.
“Please ‘come as you are,’” says Dennis’ notice about the remembrance and celebration, which continues, “David liked things free and easy and he never wore black.” The notice further instructs, “There is no prayer. There is no song. No poem, because David was like nothing else. So when you find a dime or catch the wings of a dragonfly in your sight, when you witness kindness or when you have a good laugh, think of David. Then say your prayer. Sing your song. Dance your dance of joy and remember our David. When you miss him, wrap yourself in a quilt of memories of David.”
