Sometimes we live by a somewhat skewed calendar on Fire Island. On September 14, hard on the heels of the conclusion of Congregation B’Nai Olam’s Yom Kippur services, at Whyte Hall in the Pines, came Cherry’s Christmas Party, in the Grove, with the Halloween Party set to follow in two weeks. With DJ Stacy assisting, Bianca Del Rio hosted a show that featured Sabel Scities, playing a brat clamoring for a favorite dolly, and Tina Burner, with a medley.
Down the walk at Island Breeze, with Stevie Rich at the bar, pianist Dan Daly conducted a sing-along, with the participation of singers Mike Schaeffer (“When October Goes”), Tony Negron (“Sway”), Jill Conklin (“Don’t Cry for Me Argentina”), Richard Bell (“From this Moment On”) Russ, Sean, belter Barbara (“When You’re Good to Mama”), Phil (Jacques Brel’s “Carousel” in French), this writer (“So in Love”), and operatic tenor Chad A. Johnson (“Love Changes Everything”). Chad recently helped inaugurate Fire Island Opera Festival, at the Pines Pavilion.
Up the ramp at the Ice Palace, singer Porsche gave a show, with Daniel Nardicio’s DWorld Underwear Party coming next, and DJ Chuck McTague responsible for music, sound, and lights for both.
