The members of the Arts Project of Cherry Grove (APCG) roundly acclaimed Whore D’Oeuvre as Homecoming Queen 2014 at the membership party at the Community House on May 25. MCs for the contest were Bella and APCG President Panzi and there were five contestants vying for the title and crown: Whore D’Oeuvre, the winner; Ginger Snapt, coming in a close second; Jo Jo Gerard; Mother; and the mysterious Missy Mink (past APCG President CeeJay Rosen).
Bella and Panzi introduced all past Homecoming Queens who were present, including Homecoming Queen 2013 Shirley Shapiro. In her step-down speech, Shirley Shapiro thanked Urban Sprawl, for doing her makeup and hair every time she had to appear, as well as APCG and all of the members present, before crowning Whore D’Oeuvre as her successor.
The MCs presented each of the contestants with the challenge of singing a Carole King song, in honor of the Tony® Award-nominated Broadway musical “Beautiful: the Carole King Musical.” Jo Jo sang “You Make the Earth Move under My Feet.” A glittery Ginger Snapt volunteered “You Make Me Feel like a Natural Woman.” Princess Mother, identifying herself as the Matriarch of the Imperial Court of New York, lip-synched “Natural Woman” to Ariel Sinclair and Logan Hardcore’s singing. Missy Mink confided, “I’m a Natural Woman.” And Whore D’Oeuvre sang the single line “So far away.”
Whore D’Oeuvre is an active member of the community, who ran for Homecoming Queen once before; has participated in the Pines Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) benefit; volunteered for the fundraising House Blessing; and performed in the APCG benefit at Stonewall in February.
