Hedda Lettuce, the Queen of Green, has returned to Cherry’s for Sunday and Tuesday night shows and I caught her performance on June 10, with Tommy Branigan serving as DJ. La Lettuce sported shades, which she claimed was to prevent loads of cum from hitting her in the eyes. This introduced her version of “All That Jazz,” from “Chicago,” which began, “Come on, babe, why don’t you paint my face/with all that jizz?” She segued into the alternative suggestion “On My Chest,” to the tune of “Be Our Guest,” from “Beauty and the Beast.”
Hedda’s “Jolie,” her answer to Dolly Parton’s “Jolene,” begged Angelina Jolie not to take her man. She then shared her hard luck story about having her three children chained to a little red wagon just outside the bar. Hedda’s personalized editions of Tina Turner’s “Private Dancer” and Stevie Nicks’ “Stand Back,” with active audience participation, came next.
Following a cappella bits of “Money,” from “Cabaret,” and “The Trolley Song,” paying tribute to Liza Minnelli and Judy Garland, Lettuce offered a bouncy dance number with a poetic refrain of “Fuck Me, Baby.” She closed with Elvis Presley’s “Hound Dog,” sung as, “I ain’t nothin’ but a drag queen.”
