The theme of the Arts Project of Cherry Grove’s (APCG) end-of-season gala Ball, on September 27 at the Ice Palace, was “Kinky Boots,” after the British film and Cyndi Lauper and Harvey Fierstein’s Broadway musical. There were 140 people in attendance. Music, sound, and lights were by DJ RDK (Richard Kennedy) and dinner by S.H.K. Catering Services.
Homecoming Queen Whore D’Oeuvre welcomed us with Celine Dion’s “Thank You” song. Queen Whore D’Oeuvre and handmaiden Rosebud (Kenny Holcomb) offered a duet—“Does he love you the way he loves me?”—and Rosebud/Kenny sang “Big, Blonde, and Beautiful,” from “Hairspray.” Demi-Tasse’s number was “Copacabana,” assisted by Lola Galore, and Whore D’Oeuvre concluded the entertainment with “Face to Face,” as both Reba McIntye and Linda Davis, with makeup by Roxy Brooks.
APCG President Thom “Panzi” Hansen and MC Bella, assisted by Matt Baney, presented APCG Community Service Awards to Charlie Balmer, Sue Panzer and Angela Smith, and Ruth Kossoff and David Medina. In a costume contest, conducted by Panzi and Bella, Clara Voyant won the Kinkiest Individual prize; Brian and Dale won Kinkiest Couple; 50 Shades of Gray, made up of Beach DeBree and YaNeeda Dunes, Sue and Angela, and Bud Hendrickson, won Kinkiest Group; and Patsy Aggressive won the What Were You Thinking? prize.
