On August 30, from 4 to 8 p.m., at 102 Scaup Walk, in Fire Island Pines, we will be setting the Guinness world record for the largest gathering of people dressed as Madonna. Music will be by DJ Marc Coté, full drag is mandatory, contributions to the event will be at the discretion of attendees, and there will be a vodka open bar.
The event is sponsored by D. Katen Fire Island Properties, Ltd.; Fire Island Pines Ventures, LLC; Sip N Twirl; and Three Olives Vodka, and a portion of the profits will be donated to the Fire Island Pines Fire Department.
It began as a small dinner for eight when a few Fire Island housemates decided to give the phrase dress for dinner new meaning. The following year saw another dinner, this time followed by a cocktail party with some well-dressed friends who wanted to join in the fun. While the party has become a Pines tradition and has grown to gala proportions, it remains as fresh and fun as its original premiere in 1996.
The first theme party, “Can You Learn Chic?,” was held in 1999. This year’s “It’s a Madge, Madge, Madge World” promises to be another memorable experience for all those in attendance.
