Cherry’s showed off talented performers, some new, some already familiar, in its fifth annual “So You Want a Job?” contest and show, on May 9, with Vita Summers, a newcomer who’s already stolen our hearts, as hostess and DJ Stacy responsible for music. Young Vita impressed us anew by singing “Last Dance,” “I Love You I Do” from “Dreamgirls,” Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black,” and “’Cause I’m a W-O-M-A-N.”
Last year’s winners, Ruby Roo and Elizabeth James, demonstrated striking comic timing in Beyoncé and Lady Gaga’s “Telephone,” “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” and Dolly Parton’s “Nine to Five.” We were treated to a couple of Busted interludes—Busted will be performing here and at Sandcastle.
Lee Lee Heavenly sang “Proud Mary” and danced up a storm, complete with a split. Juliet Ruby sang a number in Spanish. Marissa Pontecorvo, who will be singing on the Monday night Dining with the Divas series, offered Megan Trainor’s “All about That Bass” and Kelly Rowland’s “When Love Takes Over.”
Auditioning DJs, to be judged by Stacy, strutted their stuff for the remainder of the evening. The first to spin, Michael Vespie, was declared the winner of "So You Want a Job?" and was offered one.
