On June 11, shortly after 4 p.m., First Assistant Chief Craig Williams drove the Cherry Grove Fire Department’s (CGFD) spanking new fire truck, heralded by geysers of water from the dock and from the Bay; Fire Chief Steve Williams and Chaplain Kurt Gahan; past fire chiefs; CGFD firefighters; and most of Cherry Grove, off Tony’s Barge and onto Cherry Grove dock, to enthusiastic rounds of applause and ringing of bells. The new truck is fittingly dedicated, “In loving memory of Chief George Oakley,” who passed away on May 25, 2014.
