On September 18, singers and pianists Dan Daly and Marissa Pontecorvo headlined the season’s final show at the piano bar at Sand Castle restaurant and the evening was billed as “Last Hustle at the Castle.”
In Dan’s segment of the evening, he played and sang a Cole Porter medley, “All that Jazz,” and “Where the Boys/Girls Are,” all sing-alongs, and called for solos from Tony Negron (“Besame Mucho”), Mike Schafer (“Bring Him Home”), Jill Conklin (“I Dreamed a Dream”), and this writer (“Moon River”). Soprano Shirley Ritenour sang, a cappella, “Friendly Star,” which Judy Garland sang in “Summer Stock,” and noted that Debbie Reynolds sang it in Cherry Grove a month ago, while recalling Garland.
Marissa began with Amy Winehouse’s “Valerie” and Estelle’s “American Boy,” and her set also included Lorde’s “Royals” and the Beatles’ “Come Together.”
