On Labor Day, at the Community House, Ken Woodhouse, the Arts Project of Cherry Grove, and the Arcade Theater presented the third annual Kid Kamp “Pay as You Exit Show,” an enjoyable show for adults and young people alike, featuring Grove children Katie, Reggie, Sandy, Dylan, and RyRy, entrusted with ensuring the “future of Cherry Grove” and our theater.
Guided by fearless leader Ken, the cast entered to the “Mickey Mouse Club” theme song, substituting and spelling out “Cherry Grove” in lieu of “Mickey Mouse,” with singing along encouraged. “I Won’t Grow Up,” from “Peter Pan,” was the next song.
“H-A-double R-I-G-A-N” became “L-O-double L-I-P-O-P” here, with candy for all, and ending with a confetti shower. Song-and-dance number, with tambourine, “Beach Blanket Bingo,” followed and “The Name Game” came next. For his solo, math genius Dylan sang us a song of pi, 3.14159 and so on, including hundreds of the digits after the decimal point.
We had a sing-along in French of “Alouette,” with the cast wearing colorful feather masks and ripping apart rubber chickens. Brother and sister duo Reggie and Sandy competed in “Anything You Can Do,” from “Annie Get Your Gun.” “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah,” as a ‘tipping song,’ with all proceeds going to the Arts Project, served as the finale.
