The Arts Project of Cherry Grove (APCG) held its annual preseason membership reunion on March 6 at Bocca di Bacco restaurant in Chelsea.
APCG President Thom “Panzi” Hansen announced that the summer 2016 season in the historic, landmarked Grove Community House would include appearances by Rose Levine, Lavinia Draper, Ginger Snap, and Busted, as well as a show directed by Homecoming Queen 2015 Demi-Tasse and Terrence McNally’s “Next,” directed by Joe Anania.
On behalf of the Cherry Grove Archives, Michael Coffindaffer announced that the Archives will hold a four-part film festival at the Community House during the weekend of July 16. The centerpiece will be the showing of a 1953 16 millimeter drag spoof of “Camille,” filmed for the most part at Pride House in the Grove. Characterized by Michael as “high camp” and “historically significant,” the 50-minute film has been “cleaned, restored, and digitized” for this summer’s screening.
Diane Romano, President of Cherry Grove Community Association, Inc. (CGCAI) reported on the continuing restoration and renovation effort at the Community House. The grand reopening will take place during Memorial Day Weekend. She called this the “culmination of five years’ work” and celebrated that “we have raised one million dollars in Cherry Grove!”
Attendees at the In Town Party brunch enjoyed appetizers of mixed greens, fried calamari, or lobster salad and entrées of salmon eggs Benedict, linguine with shrimp, chicken paillard, or goat cheese and mushroom egg white omelets.
