The Arts Project of Cherry Grove (APCG) held its annual In-Town Party, a New York City gathering of the membership, at brunch at Bocca di Bacco restaurant, in Chelsea, on March 5. A highlight was piano music played by Vernon Larsen, past Music Director for APCG theatrical productions, making a welcome return to the organization and offering Broadway music and American Songbook standards. Vernon also led the assembled in singing “Happy Birthday” to APCG member Angela Smith.
APCG President Thom “Panzi” Hansen announced that the slate of summer events would include a show by veteran Grove diva Rose Levine; a new edition of Matt Baney’s “Legend” shows, featuring past Grove Homecoming Queens; and in mid-September, two short plays, directed by Joe Anania, who staged Terrence McNally’s “Next” last season. Ken Woodhouse will be among the cast members.
Panzi let us know that, at the 19th annual Cherry Grove Pride Parade, on June 17, national Marriage Equality icon Edie Windsor will be a special guest. A reception for Edie will follow the parade and a Pride fireworks display will cap the day.
