On July 25, Brooklyn’s Roque Loret-de-Mola, originally from Peru, and Ken Cypert, who hails from Arkansas, were married, with ordained minister and comic Shann Carr officiating. The white wedding ceremony and celebration took us from Top of the Bay restaurant to the back deck of Dune Point Guest House to the Mississippi River-style paddleboat Lauren Kristy, cruising on the Great South Bay, between Long Island and Fire Island, Cherry Grove and Williamsburg, Roque and Ken met in 2000, when they were both flight attendants-in-training. Roque is a manager of Top of the Bay. Sonny Shores served as bartender at Top of the Bay that afternoon and as DJ at Dune Point and Bubbles, from the Pines, was the hostess.
More than 115 family members, friends, and colleagues, from as far away as Arkansas and from abroad, in addition to the locals, were in attendance. We enjoyed cocktails at the restaurant and, onboard the river boat, hors d’oeuvres, crudités, chicken Française, eggplant parmesan, rice pilaf, seafood Newburgh, and crab cakes. The pièce de résistance was the beautiful blue iced, red velvet wedding cake, adorned with starfish and seashell figures and topped with images representing the grooms, who cut the cake and fed some to each other, before slices were distributed to the guests.
