On July 29, at the Community House, the Arts Project of Cherry Grove (APCG) held its annual Casino, this year with a theme of “Hollywood in Heaven,” and according to accounting staff members Clara Bogetti and Ruth Freedner, the event raised $7,361 net for the organization plus an additional $3,000 in donations solely toward a new sound system for the historic House. Matt Baney and JoAnn Orfanos chaired and Francine Sardone coordinated the Casino.
A large crowd came to Casino to try their luck at roulette and blackjack and to spin the wheels of fortune. In accordance with the theme, Homecoming Queen Ginger Snap and Sue Panzer came as dueling Carrie-Fishers-as-Princess-Leia, the latter armed with a Jedi sword; Lorraine Michels was French Chef Julia Child, armed with a rolling pin; Angela Smith was Charlie Chaplin; Lee Sharmat was Esther Williams; Beach DeBree was Natalie Wood; and there were numerous angels all in white and fallen angels in black.
