On July 28, the Arts Project of Cherry Grove (APCG) held its Casino night, an annual tradition since 1979, at the historic Community House, involving card games, roulette, and wheels of fortune. As this is the 70th anniversary of the founding of APCG, the organization decided to celebrate the 70s, the 1970s, that is, which suggested the Village People, tie-dye, peace signs, flower children, hippies, and Afro hairdos, to the participants.
According to APCG Treasurer Eric Coyne, the event grossed $6,600 for the organization, with 183 people in attendance. Francine Sardone, who coordinated Casino with Sue Panzer, pointed out that there were many new volunteers, including six new dealers, with one of them, Corey Younger, following in his late father, Bob Younger’s, footsteps, and that coordinators and resident artists of Fire Island Artist Residency (FIAR) were among those who assisted.
