Hardly had the dust settled from the previous day’s Miss Fire Island 2018 Pageant, but past and present Miss Fire Island titleholders returned to the Ice Palace stage for the Coronation Ball on September 9. The previous day’s hostesses, Logan Hardcore, Porsche, and Ariel Sinclair, Emceed once again and DJ Chuck McTague was responsible for music, lights, and sound.
Brian Hull opened the proceedings by dulcetly singing the national anthem and Johnny Savoy’s “Ballad of Miss Fire Island,” and introduced Miss Fire Island 2017 Champagne Bubbles, who was stepping down.
After her song, Meghan Trainor’s “No Excuses,” in which she hung from the rafters and dropped to the floor in a split, Logan announced, “We’re here to celebrate the girls who won yesterday.” She brought out Entertainers of the Year 2017 FiFi DuBois and Sapphira Cristal, who had tied, to do respective numbers, Sia’s “Chandelier” and “Alive,” with all the dance moves, and “Take Me to Church,” which found Cristal slowly dropping into a split.
Logan also welcomed to the stage veteran Misses Fire Island 1969 Rita George, the third to hold this title and celebrating the 50th anniversary of her victory, and 1968 Charity, the second, who delivered a hot “Hard Hearted Hannah.” Champagne Bubbles’ step-down number, “Don’t Forget Me,” followed.
Porsche sang “This Is Me,” at once vulnerable and proud. She brought to the stage sponsors winners Androgyny, with back-up dancers, and Detoxx Busti-Ae, in her Mardi Gras best, as well as Judges Award winner Tammy Spanx, singing Pink’s “Glitter in the Air,” and then called upon Messrs. Fire Island Leather 2018 CB Kirby—the current—and 2001—the first—this writer to take a bow with her.
Porsche also introduced Honey Davenport, deemed Most Popular, with back-up dancers, one of them dressed as King Kong? an alien?, and Entertainer of the Year 2018 Sugga Pie Koko, who performed a riotous “Umbrella,” of Rihanna, as a Walmart worker.
Ariel’s number was an “All about that Bass” parody (“I’m all about that dick”) and then she brought out Wonder Woman (Champagne Bubbles) and her young fan. She next presented Ms. Fire Island 2017 and Ginger Moore, Ms. Fire Island 2018 Vanessa Diamond, Miss Ice Palace 2018 Lady SinAGaga, and Miss Cherry Grove 2018 Jizzabella, followed by a parade of former and current winners, which culminated in the entrance of newly-minted Miss Fire Island 2018 Tina Burner, serenaded by Brian Hull with the “Ballad of Miss Fire Island.”
