The five participants in Fire Island Artist Residency (FIAR) 2018 showed some of their work, begun or completed here or just before their arrival here, at a Closing Reception and Exhibition, at the Cherry Grove Community House on August 15, as the residency drew to an end.
Anna Campbell, from Brooklyn, showed her installation “The Doughnut Rack,” legendary lesbian counterpart to the Meat Rack, on the Community House stage.
Brooklyn’s Leeanne Maxey’s work featured highlights of her Bible series, “Madam and Eve” and “Noah’s Woody,” in egg tempera, as well as her painting of FIAR Co-Coordinator Jesse Harrod on the beach.
Brooklyn’s Montgomery (Monte) Smith’s installation represented his work table here, the materials and the art.
José Joaquin Figueroa, from Venezuela and Oakland, California, displayed many of his Cherry Grove drawings, of performances at bars and restaurants, meetings and other gatherings at the Community House, and beach scenes.
Kiarash K (KiKi), from Iran and Frankfurt, Germany, shared paintings of the butterflies and flowers in the Grove and of the Blood Moon, in July, seen from here.
FIAR Founding Coordinator Chris Bogia told Fire Island Q News to anticipate an exhibit by the year’s FIAR artists in New York City, as has occurred annually, sometime early in 2019.
