Fire Island Q News learned recently that Philis Raskind-Anderson, formerly of Cherry Grove and Connecticut, had passed away. She is survived by spouse Jon Anderson, who had been partner and muse of late artist Paul Cadmus and had been a cabaret singer.
For the Arts Project of Cherry Grove, Philis, well-known in the cabaret world as a publicist, had performed the comic John Wallowitch song “Bruce” and directed the 2003 political cabaret “Smoke and Mirrors,” at the Cherry Grove Community House. For the Grove Repertory Theatre Company, she participated in readings of Eve Ensler’s “Vagina Monologues,” at the defunct Tides, in 2005. She offered a live demonstration of her sculpting at the Barbara Ann Levy Gallery, which had been located in the Ice Palace/Grove Hotel, with Jon as her model.
