On July 25, Daniel Nardio wrote, in an email to his mailing list, “This week we lost a true ally, sister, diva and friend. Robbyne Kaamil passed away this week. We are bereft, we are shocked … If you knew Robbyne, you loved her … a finer person there never was. I will forever miss you sis. You were a FORCE.”
Robbyne shared her piquant, pungent,and political wit and wisdom in her show “Robbyne Kaamil: Raw & Real: Life from One Woman’s Perspective” at such places as Duplex, in October 2012 and, thanks to the Arts Project of Cherry Grove, at the Community House in August 2011. She performed at the Ice Palace with Ariel Sinclair and Poppi Kramer in August 2010. She took part in a Gospel Brunch, with Flotilla DeBarge, at Island Breeze in August 2012.
Robbyne plays a part in “Nardicio’s Great Gay American Road Trip,” shown by the Cherry Grove Archives Collection, at the Community House, on July 20, and concerning a wacky journey, by school bus, from Brooklyn to the Hippo, a club in Baltimore, for a performance and broadcast. She could often be found working the door at Daniel’s Friday night Underwear Parties at the Ice Palace.
Robbyne will truly be missed by those of us whose life she touched.
