Beloved entertainer Hedda Lettuce, or as she put it, “the legend, the lady, and the Lettuce,” made a welcome seasonal return to Cherry Grove, to the Cherry’s stage, on June 11, with DJ Jizzabella assisting.
Hedda took to the short “remedial runway,” singing “Who’s that girl/I’m just a drag queen in Paradise (that girl is me!);” rehearsed us in responding “in Paradise,” whenever she sang “I’m just a drag queen;” and ended on a triumphant low note! Hedda dictated a line for me to write—“Hedda Lettuce looked slimmer than ever in that caftan”—and razzed the Pines boys down front.
Served her “mocktail,” “Herbal Cleanse,” Hedda teased new Cherry’s employees Justin and Frankie, as well as usual suspects Carlos and David. She then told us about the lamentable state of her three unusual children.
The diva’s “Pocketbook Prizes and Surprises” game followed, with three contestants subjected to Q & A and the requisite lip-synch and dance performance, with a lesson in spit-roasting thrown in, and the winner was comely Evian, from Puerto Rico, whom I forgave for borrowing my motorcycle cap. Hedda concluded with “Private Dancer,” her traditional tipping song.
