On May 23, at Island Breeze restaurant, “RuPaul’s Drag Race Reunion” was on the TV screens and, between parts of the show, beloved singer Porsche, fairly fresh from hosting events during Leather Weekend, offered favorite songs.
Porsche began with “Delta Dawn” and soon dollar bills rained down on her, shot out of a ‘gun’ by George, of Chick and George. Responding with “Big Spender,” from “Sweet Charity,” she repaid George by shooting a gunful of white Zinfandel into his mouth. Her next songs were “Orange Colored Sky” and “Total Eclipse of the Heart.”
Greeting the arrival of the ferry with the theme from “The Love Boat,” Porsche sang parts of it as performers who appeared on the show: Carol Channing, Ethel Merman and, of course, Charo. “Be My Baby,” “Downtown,” and “It’s in His Kiss (the Shoop Shoop song)” were numbers that followed. Porsche concluded, in dulcet tones of Elaine Stritch, with a rousing “Ladies Who Lunch,” from “Company.”
