On September 8, the day after the Miss Fire Island 2019 Pageant, the Ice Palace celebrated the winners, poolside, with champagne flowing, and the new titleholders walking the runway and doing their numbers. Porsche, Electra, and Ariel Sinclair were Mistresses of Ceremonies and DJ RDK (Richard Kennedy) was responsible for music and sound. During the afternoon, Electra solicited donations for the Red Cross relief fund for the Bahamas, following Hurricane Dorian.
Keri White sang the Star Spangled Banner a cappella, followed by Johnny Savoy’s Ballad of Miss Fire Island, with RDK’s assistance. Porsche sang the “Barbie Girl” song. Miss Fire Island 2018 Tina Burner, who stepped down the previous day, sported multi-colored dayglow hair, and is now 2019 Comedy Queen, interspersed the monologues of a clueless beauty contestant and the “Designing Women” one about “the night the lights went out in Georgia” with “She Works Hard for the Money” and “Don’t Cry out Loud.”
Miss Fire Island 2019 Zola Powell marked her victory with “It’s not Right, but It’s Okay” and greeted members of the audience individually. Most Popular 2019 winner Pettie Cake’s mashup beginning with “(My heart is in) Havana” was embellished with somersaults along the runway over the pool and with splits. Electra offered a Bette Midler monologue about her makeover and, recalling her debut here in 1985, at the height of the AIDS Crisis, urged heterosexuals present, “Hurry up and start fucking so you can make more fags and dykes!”
Entertainer of the Year 2019 Boudoir LeFleur gave us a lively mashup with onstage costume changes. Ms. Fire Island Elite 2019 Billy Little took her coronation walk in gold with a cape of peacock feathers.
A parade of former titleholders along the runway came next and included Gina Marie Versace, Whore D’Oeuvre, Champagne Bubbles, 88-year-old veteran China, Viva Sexx, Nikki Starr, Ginger Moore, Tina Burner, and Messrs. Fire Island Leather 2019 Bruce Michael II and 2001 this writer were invited to walk the runway as well.
Ariel Sinclair’s number was “Oops! … I did it again,” punctuated with flatulence, and she invited Miss Ice Palace 2019 Victoria Falls, Miss Cherry Grove 2019 Clarice DuBois, and Zola Powell to take coronation walks.
