Comic Margaret Cho returned to the Ice Palace for two shows on July 20, thanks to impresario Daniel Nardicio, and shared a wealth of her wit and wisdom, risqué and political, with us. Here are some examples of what she told us.
After styling her 7 p.m. show “early lesbian seating, ’cause lesbians have to go home,” she described preparing for a Fire Island summer as “May is like Gay Ramadan. Everybody fasts for a month … I went from not eating anything to Bear Week in Provincetown.” She identifies as “a bear hag:” “I enjoy hanging out with bears—’cause you know you’re going to eat.” She told us about Dick Dock, which she called “Provincetown’s answer to the Meat Rack” : “It’s kind of dangerous: you could slip on some spooge.” And then “there’s Spiritus Pizza,” open later than the bars and a last resort “if you didn’t get any dick.”
Cho showed off her “flat ass: Asian people like a flat ass, because we’re always sitting and studying.” She explored two aspects of that observation: “All my fat is in my vaginal area. I have a big fat pussy!” and “I’m the only Asian-American in the entire world who didn’t go to college: my family is very upset.”
On the ubiquitous gay greeting “gurl”: “Gurl means everything, like aloha or shalom.”
Cho revealed her age: “I’m 50” and said, as an aside, “She’s really old,” but “I still get a period once a year.”
She talked about reality TV: “In 2011, I was on ‘Dancing with the Stars,’” with the Situation, from “Jersey Shore,” and Bristol Palin. “Remember the Palins? Remember when we thought they were bad?” but now we’ve experienced so much worse. On Sarah Palin: “I hate her politics, but I want to fuck her.” Furthermore, “I really want to fuck Sarah Huckaby Sanders.”
Cho voiced more preferences: “I like vibrators” and, on those who use them, said, “I’m sure we caused the big power outage in Manhattan.” Also, “I like butch women. A lot of butch women live on Long Island,” but “not all of them are gay.” By butch women she means, she explained, “the kind of woman who rolls her own tampon.”
“Where is Melania Trump? I think he ate her,” she quipped, adding, “It’s got to be hard to fuck him. We need immigrants to do what Americans won’t do.”
“World Pride was incredible!” Cho exclaimed. She urged young gays, who never knew what it was like to be closeted and have to pretend to be straight, however, to learn to “eat pussy” and queried, “Would you eat pussy for charity?” and posited, “If you eat pussy, the people of Flint will have clean water .. Donald Trump will be impeached!”
