Joseph John (Joe) Clinton, of Cherry Grove and Westbury, New York, passed away on January 25, 2020 in his 87th year. Born in Hempstead on March 19, 1932, he graduated Manhattan College in 1954, earning a BA; served in the Army from 1955 to 1957; and went on to receive his Master of Science Education, from Hofstra University, in 1960. He was a history teacher in Huntington Schools for 33 years, as well as a lifeguard at Jones Beach for more than 30 years. He was a lifelong member of Saint Brigid’s Roman Catholic Church in Westbury and was a summer resident of Cherry Grove during his retirement years. He was the loving son of the late Joseph John Clinton and Madelyn Dowling Clinton. He is survived by his husband Michael Halliday, great-nephew Joseph Waring, and others. An event in Joe Clinton’s memory will take place on Fire Island community during Memorial Day weekend. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Brigid’s Roman Catholic Church in Westbury or to the Cherry Grove Fire Department.
