Beloved singer Porsche has started her season of “Porsche Live” shows, assisted by invaluable DJ Chuck McTague, at the Ice Palace, and I caught her second show, on May 16, where I heard her in a varied wealth of song.
Porsche began by singing a cheerful salute to the season, “Vacation (in the summertime,)” written for Connie Francis, and went on to Tammy Wynette’s “Your Good Girl’s Gonna Go Bad.” She sang Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’,” part of it as Cher, for DJ RDK (Richard Kennedy) and Mr. Fire Island Leather 2012 Mark Nayden; as well as Hank Williams’ “Lovesick Blues” and Patsy Cline’s “Crazy.”
Our diva gave us the hottest of renditions of Peggy Lee’s “Fever” and, in response to a request for some Amy Winehouse, “Tears Dry on their Own.” Next came “I’m Just a Girl (don’t let me out of your sight);” Adele’s “Someone Like You,” for a fan who joined her in singing; “Delta Dawn;” and, accompanying herself on tambourine, Stevie Nicks’ “Stand Back,” complete with dancing boy. She turned to Pat Benatar’s “Shadows of the Night” and Heart’s “Alone,” then sang “Miss Celie’s Blues (Sister),” from the film “The Color Purple,” in memory of Sweetie and in honor of all of her living sisters.
Porsche went from Judy Garland (“The Trolley Song”) to Louis Armstrong/Johny Pool “What a Wonderful World.” She had a couple of Diana Ross moments (“Baby Love” and, to a vocal track, with Lionel Ritchie, “Endless Love”). We had Björk’s “It’s Oh So Quiet” and, with Porsche enlisting Ariel Sinclair, Brenda Dharling, Victoria Falls, and Androgyny as back up dancers, an ABBA medley, of “Dancing Queen,” “Mamma Mia!” and “Waterloo,” for a grand finale.
