Dan Evans, who lives in Cherry Grove, will be the featured artist in the first of a series of exhibits this Spring and Summer at the Barbara Ann Levy Gallery in Cherry Grove. Evans' exhibit is entitled "Homage To Egon Schiele" and will feature 20 works including acrylics and watercolors. The exhibit will run from mid-May through early-June of the 2002 season, with an opening reception May 18.
The work of of Austrian artist Egon Schiele is expressionistic and striking in appearance. The recently opened Neue Gallery on Fifth Avenue in New York City, home to expressionist works and exhibits, has a number of Schiele works on display in the permanent collection. Evans has captured the look and feel of this unique early twentieth century artist in a series of works including both figurative and landscape subject matter.
Evans is a graduate of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, with a diploma in painting (l984.) He teaches Art History at Community College of Philadelphia and he is a Columbia University graduate with an MA in Art History (l968.) Evans is also a writer and poet who has appeared in poetry publications: "Snort," a chapbook, "Hellcoal Annual," the anthology "Angels of the Lyre" & over 40 poetry magazines. His short stories have been published in "Art/MAG"(Las Vegas) (1999,) "Pangolin Papers" (a story nominated for the Pushcart Prize - Summer 2001;) and he has a story forthcoming in 2002 in "Harrington Gay Men's Fiction Quarterly."
