Into the Pines Kitchen contains 200 recipes from 100 contributors, including Pines notables Scott Bromley, Gilbert Parker, and Hal Rubinstein. As a nod to bygone days, the book also features a posthumous contribution from John Whyte, one of the Pines' founders. The book includes original photography of the island from Pines artists William Karam, Mark Lonsbury, and Barbara Sahlman. •More About this Book»

June 9, 2009 - Jackie Dupree, in her Fire Island debut, at Cherry's on June 9, impressed listeners as she put heart and voice into a diverse selection of songs, from soul to dance music to Broadway. Heaven was the DJ.
Jackie, originally from Detroit and, in other garb, a gay football player, introduced herself in a group of lively comic, sexy raps-"I'm such a lady, but I dress like a 'ho'," "I'm Jackie-licious ... so delicious"-and soon unveiled a polished high range, in the repeated phrase "Set me free," as she oozed sensuality, singing, "I just can't get you out of my head/boy, your lovin' is all that I think about." For the women present, she sang, Sapphically, "I kissed a girl, I liked it."
After yielding the stage to her guest, Anastasia DeVille-Ghetto ("Back to the middle and around again/I'm gonna be there till the end"), also making a Fire Island debut, Jackie returned to urge, à la Shirley Bassey, "Get this party started," as if it hadn't, with a vengeance, thanks to her, and to confide, in Diana Ross' song, that, "Upside down, boy, you turn me inside out and 'round and 'round."
Jackie saluted us indigenous folk with "Native New Yorker," punctuated by numerous high notes, and, keening, with a nod to Toni Braxton, begged a cad who jilted her to "Unbreak my heart." She relished the melismatic passages in her dulcet rendition of Roberta Flack favorite "Killing me softly."
No stranger to film and theater music, our diva sang gay anthem "Over the Rainbow," from "The Wizard of Oz," in honor of Pride Month, and seduced us with a pairing of "Big Spender," from "Sweet Charity," and "Whatever Lola Wants," as "Whatever Jackie wants," from "Damn Yankees." She took her leave of us with a down-and-dirty dance number.
Jackie Dupree will be back at Cherry's on June 30, July 21, August 11 and September 1 at 11 p.m. Don't miss this singing sensation!
