On September 13, at the invitation of Roland Michely, people of Cherry Grove gathered at Hi Fidelio, the house he shared with Glen Boles, to remember Glen, who passed away on the night of July 23/morning of July 24, and would have celebrated his 96th birthday on the day after this gathering.
People came to reminisce and take a meal together on the ocean-side deck and in the house. Seated at Glen's piano, David Clenny played Liszt's "Il Sospiro," sang Verdi and Puccini with Joe Williams, and offered the Puccini-derived "One Night of Love," written for Grace Moore.
David's company, the West Side Opera Society, of which Glen and Roland have been strong supporters, will give a concert performance of Bellini's "I Puritani" "in loving memory of Glen," on September 20 at 4 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church of Manhattan, 164 West 100th Street, east of Amsterdam Avenue. The hearing will benefit the church's Trinity Place Shelter for Homeless LGBT Youth and the suggested donation is $10. The singers will be Sara Henry, Alisa Popovic, Jovier Sanchez, Dorian Balis, Robert Wilber, Gregg Lauterbach, Robert Leuze and Michael Graves, and David will be the music director.
