Suddenly Porsche Is Standing Before You - on the "Wanda Sykes Show" on Fox-TV!

On Saturday, November 7, from 11 p.m. to midnight, the "Wanda Sykes Show" had its premiere on the Fox television network and, joining the popular comic, and set to appear regularly on the show, was none other than our own Porsche, the singer you've heard and loved in Cherry Grove, Fire Island Pines, Manhattan and Key West, and whom the host called, on camera, "My favorite drag queen."
During the first show, Porsche got caught ogling President Barack Obama as the cameras rolled; helped Wanda Sykes hawk bottled Mt. Kilimanjaro glacier water; and participated in an "Inappropriate Games" segment entitled "Know Your Asians," asking the two questions, introducing the accompanying celebrity photos, and showing the correct answers after Wanda Sykes' panelists had made their choices.
The morning after the premiere, one of my publishers emailed me, asking, "Would it be possible for you to reach out to Porsche and do something for [Q News] on her rise to stardom?" Four days later, after an exchange of text messages, Porsche and I had the telephone conversation that follows.
Porsche: How are you, Honey!
Q News: How are you?
P: I'm wonderful, wonderful. Actually, I just got up a little while ago and I'm packing up at the hotel and getting ready to go to the studio.
QN: Ah, you are on California time.
P: Yes, I am. I'm in LA.
QN: [My partner] Joe said, 'It's only 10:30 in the morning. She's not up yet.'
P: No, I'm fine. I'm up. It's weird being a daytime girl now.
QN: It was very exciting seeing you on television.
P: Well, thank you. It's still very surreal for me. I'm just like, whaaat? Okay.
QN: So, may I ask you a few questions?
P: Of course you can.
QN: Being seen on the "Wanda Sykes Show" by millions of television viewers is a potentially life-changing development. Do you feel that it has changed yours already and, if so, how?
P: Yes. My Facebook nearly burned out.
QN: Because everyone saw you on the show.
P: Exactly. Within, I think, 15 minutes, my voicemail was full, my cell phone was full, Facebook was full-it was cool.
QN: All that must be very gratifying.
P: It's gratifying, but it also took me about half-an-hour to sift through it all.
QN: You're going to need a secretary.
P: Exactly.
QN: Well, you did look terrific on the show. You looked slender. You looked great.
P: Thank you.
QN: What I want to know is, will you get to sing on the show and, if so, when?
P: Yes, I will. We're working on getting the rights for everything. That's the hard part. I'm singing before we start taping. I warm up the audience. So I'm already singing. It's just hard to get it on camera so far.
QN: Well, good luck with that.
P: We're working on it. Actually, now that the first show has come out and there's been a good response, Fox is actually willing to cough up more money now.
QN: It was cute that [Wanda Sykes] said about 7 or 8 minutes into it, "We haven't been canceled yet!" How did your working on the show come about? Are you able to talk about Wanda Sykes making an appearance on your show [at the Ice Palace] in Cherry Grove [this past summer]?
P: Absolutely. Right before that show started, she came up to me and said, "I want to talk to you about doing a show on Fox with me." And then she proceeded to just, basically, offer me the job onstage.
QN: Now that you've hit 'the big time,' will you still remember all 'the little people out there in the dark' who have come to your shows on Fire Island, in Manhattan, and in Key West?
P: Well, of course. And the best part is, we have summers off on this show, so I'm coming back to Fire Island.
QN: Great! I'm glad you're not too big for us all.
P: Hell, no! What would I do without Fire Island? It's like blood.
QN: Is there anything else that you want to tell Q News readers?
P: I know I miss everybody. I miss the summer already. And can't wait to go back next year. Just keep watching the show, because everything's going to change every week and it's just getting funnier and funnier.
QN: Are your family members, is your mother watching?
P: Oh, of course they are.
QN: Everybody all excited?
P: Oh, they love it
QN: Having parties to gather together and watch it?
P: Yeah, they had a good little party in Texas to watch it. It was fun. My friends had watching parties in New York. It was fun. And actually Shannon-you know Shannon, the owner of the Ice Palace, she was actually here with me in LA. She stopped over on her way to Mexico and was here with me for the premiere. That was a lot of fun.
